Are Your Shoes Making Your Bunions Worse?

If you’re living with bunions, the shoes you wear can either help or hinder your condition. Many people are surprised to learn that poor footwear can accelerate bunion growth or increase pain over time.

Shoes that are too narrow, have pointed toes, or high heels that shift weight onto the front of the foot are all common culprits. These styles can put pressure on the big toe joint, which is already under strain in those with bunions.

At Treat Your Feet, we often see clients whose discomfort could be reduced with the right footwear choices. Look for wide-fitting shoes with supportive soles and plenty of space for your toes. Cushioned insoles or bunion pads can also help reduce irritation during daily activities.

While footwear won’t cure a bunion, it can significantly slow its progression and reduce symptoms. If your bunion is starting to affect your walking or causing pain, it’s time to get it checked by a Foot Health Practitioner.

If you're experiencing any foot concerns or simply want to stay on top of your foot health, book an appointment with Treat Your Feet today at our Wombwell or Morley clinic – your feet will thank you.
